Maverick Transportation announced Allen "Cheater Bar" Coley of Parkton, NC, as their 2011 Driver of the Year on Friday, February 3, 2011 at their annual Driver of the Year award presentation.
Coley was stunned by the announcement and gave an emotional acceptance speech. "I've jumped out of airplanes. I've fought in wars. I can honestly say I've never been this nervous," said Coley. "I am so honored to be chosen as Driver of the Year by my peers. I will do everything I can to represent my Maverick family in the best way I can."
Coley, a driver in Maverick's glass division, has been with Maverick for almost 5 years and has spent 20 years as a professional truck driver. He spent 16 years with Maverick's Specialized division that was acquired in August of 2006 from Schneider National.
Coley was named Maverick's April 2011 Driver of the Month. He is the recipient of numerous safety awards, was also honored as Driver of the Month in 2008, and maintains extremely high performance numbers, including one of the best MPG averages on his fleet. "Allen serves as a mentor to many drivers on the current Maverick fleet and he is a true asset to Maverick," said Fleet Manager Tina Frier. "He is very knowledgeable about the glass industry and a great source of information for new drivers."
Coley has been married for 48 years, has 4 children and 5 grandchildren. He served in US Army for 28 years and currently resides in Parkton, NC.

Every month Maverick recognizes a driver from the company's fleet who takes pride in his or her profession and the company, employs safety, and maintains Maverick standards in all they do. All office and driver employees then vote from the twelve Drivers of the Month to select the Driver of the Year. As Driver of the Year, Coley will receive an extra week of vacation time, a $2,500 bonus check, and a custom-made leather jacket.
